[01:28] [Tarcas] Somewhat. what's the trouble.
[01:28] [peer] Wont flush, acts like there is something jammed in there, but there isnt...
[01:28] [peer] I replaced the wax ring, same thing...
[01:28] [peer] Like it isnt getting enough umph
[01:28] [Tarcas] what's it do instead of flush?
[01:29] [Tarcas] fill up the bowl?
[01:29] [peer] I got it to finally come to the top of the rim and then about 2 times as long to actually flush
[01:29] [peer] Yea
[01:29] [Tarcas] Get a plunger. If that won't work, get a snake.
[01:29] [peer] And Im afraid if I put a couple of my "boys" in there, they might end up on the floor.
[01:29] [peer] Plunger, somewhat helps
[01:29] [peer] Snake didnt find anything..
[01:30] [peer] Done the same thing with it off the flood and in the tub
[01:30] [peer] My 'Thrown' is being bad
[01:30] [Tarcas] then you've probably got a rather distant clog... anything else in the house acting up? Sink? Shower? Other toilets/
[01:30] [Tarcas] huh?
[01:31] [peer] No and it has to be the toilet... I pulled it off and it does the same thing in the tub
[01:31] [peer] Thrown = Toilet
[01:31] [Tarcas] how do you flush a toilet when it's in the tub?
[01:31] [Tarcas] throne
[01:31] [peer] Oh
[01:31] [peer] Ummm..
[01:31] [peer] Fill it up, the tank... Then flush
[01:32] [peer] Wonder if there could be air making it happen?
[01:32] [Tarcas] ah. Is your ring sealing to the tub? :-P
[01:32] [peer] LOL No No Ring
[01:32] [peer] Just bowl and tank
[01:32] [Tarcas] BRB. We'll continue talking about your pooper after I get my food down here. :-D
[01:32] [peer] LoL
[01:35] [Tarcas] Is it on the floor or the tub now?
[01:37] [peer] Its back together now
[01:37] [Tarcas] okay... now... plunge the CRAP out of it!
[01:38] *** Tarcas hears crickets...
[01:39] [peer] I did
[01:39] [peer] I plunged it dry
[01:39] [peer] Same thing
[01:39] [Tarcas] When it's off, did you pour water in the hole? (I forget what it's called, if I ever knew)
[01:40] *** Tarcas is NOT the technical support hotline for a toilet
[01:40] [peer] LoL
[01:40] [peer] Yes I tried
[01:41] [Tarcas] did it go down?
[01:41] [peer] Nope
[01:41] [Tarcas] and if so, how much?
[01:41] [peer] Not until I plunged it
[01:41] [Tarcas] then it's not a poilet problem, it's a sewer problem.
[01:41] [peer] Then why it do it when it isnt on the drain?
[01:42] [Tarcas] probably because the bottom's sealing to the tub.
[01:42] [Tarcas] so you have no drain, no outlet (no ground, if you will)
[01:43] [Tarcas] but if you pour water down the sewer opening, it should go down. you got a basement, crawlspace, or a slab?
[01:43] [peer] No I held the pooper on the side of the tub with the exit in the tub
[01:43] [peer] Crawlspace
[01:44] [Tarcas] how much water was in the bowl after the flush attempt?
[01:46] [Tarcas] The tub flush attempt that is
[01:46] [peer] Oh
[01:46] [peer] About 3 inches
[01:46] [Tarcas] fill 'er up!
[01:46] [peer] It could be that the line or a vent is stopped up. But before I went through all the time and mess of pulling the commode or paying a plumber to do so, I would check the jet holes. At least if it is an older toilet. If it is visible, check the main jet at the bottom of the bowl, and also there are several smaller ones around the bottom of the rim.
[01:46] [peer] If the one in the bottom is clogged, it can be cleaned out with a short screw driver, a wire coat hanger, or a combination of the two. The clog will be hard as it will be mineral deposits but it will break up. The holes around the bottom of the rim are easily cleaned with a wire coat hanger.
[01:46] [peer] LOl
[01:46] [peer] Yea I put more in it
[01:47] [peer] I cranked the water level to the top of the tube
[01:47] [peer] Trying to give it some more umph
[01:47] [peer] I think that is why it isnt over running no more..
[01:47] [Tarcas] what tube?
[01:47] [digiEd] you tube
[01:47] [peer] the tube that fills the bowl up
[01:47] [peer] With the black hose in it
[01:48] [Tarcas] there's a tube? I've never seen a tube in a bowl.
[01:48] [peer] In the tank
[01:48] [peer] Not the bowl
[01:48] [peer] I cranked it up to put more water in the bowl and the tank
[01:48] [Tarcas] is it not draining the bowl or the tank?
[01:48] [peer] So more water empties into the tank
[01:48] [peer] The bowl
[01:48] [peer] The tank drains fine..
[01:49] [Tarcas] so why are you mentioning the tank when I asked about the bowl?
[01:49] [Tarcas] You were in IT. You should know how to isolate problems!
[01:49] [peer] Because you got to give the tank more water so more water will go to the bowl,
[01:50] [peer] Ive tried
[01:50] [peer] I cant think of anything else
[01:50] [Tarcas] no you don't. Pour more water in the bowl and it will drain.
[01:50] [Tarcas] if you pour it fast enough it'll even flush
[01:50] [peer] Hence the remove the toilet and check for clogs/obstructions and trying to flush in the tub
[01:50] [peer] Ok let me give it more water in the bowl..
[01:51] [Tarcas] k
[01:59] [peer] Yea, no, none of the 3 last discussed worked
[01:59] [Tarcas] nothing was even running out the bottom of the toilet?
[01:59] [peer] Still comes to the bottom of the top rim before it start twirling down
[01:59] [Tarcas] interesting. Snake it good.
[02:00] [peer] Yea Im going to
[02:00] [peer] But...

[02:04] [peer] I got to either one, do my thing and flush and hope I can plunge fast enough...
[02:04] [peer] Or else..
[02:05] [peer] Or.. I have to go outside like a dog

[16:20] [Mack] yesterday my youngest daughter heard the runt puppy crying incessantly
[16:20] [Mack] the mother wouldnt feed or murture it
[16:22] [Mack] so she was insistant on bringing it in the house and nursing it with a baby bottle
[16:22] [Mack] i knew it was going to die
[16:22] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] heh.
[16:22] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] :-/
[16:22] [Mack] but it was cold, and hungry, and wanting to be loved by its mommy
[16:22] [Mack] but she pushed it away like mother dogs do to pups that are dying
[16:22] [peer] http://farm1.static.flickr.com/44/129225279_a7019be1df.jpg?v=0
[16:22] [Mack] so she convinced me to let her bring it inside
[16:22] [Mack] and all nitght my daugthers and wife nursed, and cuddled it
[16:22] [Mack] and loed it
[16:22] [Mack] i stopped crying and seemed content

[16:26] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] we've had 2 runt dogs. both are/were awesome as the case may be.
[16:26] [peer] I remember in the 80s you used to fight fist to fist. Now it is who has the bigger gun and can shoot it better.
[16:26] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] of course peer.
[16:26] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] because modern kids are lazy.
[16:26] [peer] I remember blocking the allies off with dumpsters so the cops couldnt get in and we had time to get away
[16:26] *** Midorikawa|Psychosis is one of the last of the fistfight generation of kids.
[16:27] [peer] Now they come through the walkways of 2 buildings and pop you from 2 doors down and run
[16:27] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] although I never got in one really

[16:27] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] I could have. I have martial arts experience
[16:27] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] plus growing up as the kid of 2 army officers
[16:27] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] I COULD fight if I had no other choice
[16:27] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] just wasn't my first choice to throw a fist in someone's nose.
[16:28] [peer] LOL

[16:30] [peer] I had some martial arts training too
[16:30] [peer] I think I made it to a red belt?

[16:34] *** Mack used to fight with the band guys about once a week
[16:34] [Mack] we would fight just to get frustrations out
[16:34] [peer] Once you got to fifth, you had to register I think
[16:34] [Mack] when we were done
[16:34] [Mack] we were all still friends
[16:34] [peer] haha Reminds me
[16:34] [peer] This girl broke up with me.. and I was mad as a hornet boy, and my buddy ask what the heck was wrong with me and I layed him out..

[17:21] [peer] Not one cuss word,
[17:21] [Midorikawa|Psychosis] rap still seemed talentless back then, yeah back then there was a musical quality to it, but really anyone can talk (or now curse) into a microphone to the beat of a drum machine. :-P

Also this is where the FREE CAR Program enters the picture, if your current vehicle does not meet the qualifications for a promotion we will give you the option of being supplied a vehicle for the term of the contract. [21:44] [zEkE|Macbook] she got a driving record for a job application that isn't calling her back
[21:45] [peer] Yea
[21:45] [peer] Thats not a bad deal
[21:45] [peer] And
[21:45] [peer] If you get half wraps or Window Wraps, you could do multiple
[21:45] [peer] And make more than 400$
[21:46] [zEkE|Macbook] assuming the half-wraps had a combined worth of over $400
[21:46] [Tarcas] can you do multiple on the same car?
[21:46] [Tarcas] I wouldn't expect so
[21:47] [peer] I dont know
[21:47] [Tarcas] Another option is the free car program. But it sounds like the $400 is instead a lease, so you pocket nothing, just get the use of a car.
[21:47] [peer] Yea
[21:47] [zEkE|Macbook] still not a bad deal ;-)
[21:47] [peer] Which would still be cool
[21:47] [peer] Yes!
[21:47] [zEkE|Macbook] Mack might be interested
[21:48] [peer] yep
[21:48] [Tarcas] yeah, especially if you've got a lease you're paying on anyway.
[21:48] [Tarcas] Does that make the miles tax-deductible, as they're required for a "job?"
[21:49] [peer] Possible
[21:49] [zEkE|Macbook] true
[21:49] [peer] Talk to a CPA
[21:49] [Tarcas] Also, what's it cost to get my own wrap made for my own company?
[21:49] [peer] Prolly a lot
[21:49] [peer] LoL
[21:49] [peer] More than I want to pay right now
[21:49] [peer] Can you imagine what people like Yahoo pay per car
[21:49] [peer] Probably like a grand a month per car
[21:50] [peer] Hence why they can 'let you drive' a free car..
[21:50] [peer] All they do is lease it and put you on the insurance.
[21:50] [peer] Say, 159$ a month
[21:50] [peer] Thats 840$ in the pocket still...
[21:51] [peer] How come I couldnt think of something like this...
[21:51] [zEkE|Macbook] lol
[21:52] [peer] I mean think about it..
[21:53] [peer] 10 cars leased at say 200 a month, Plus say, 100 a month for insurance. Yahoo pays 1000 a month per car.
[21:53] [peer] So 10 times 1000 is 10,000
[21:53] [peer] 300 x 10 = 3000
[21:53] [peer] 7 x 10 = 7,000$ a month
[21:54] [zEkE|Macbook] not bad, even after you start applying tax and other internal costs
[21:54] [peer] Yea
[21:54] [peer] Put say 12% up for taxes
[21:54] [peer] 15% to be safe
[21:54] [zEkE|Macbook] administration staff/fees, plus a 'rainy day' fund
[21:55] [peer] 1 car would pay someone a month
[21:55] [peer] And you know they got more than 10 cars
[21:55] [peer] add a 0 to all that..
[21:55] [peer] 70,000$ a year gross profit...
[21:56] [zEkE|Macbook] a year?
[21:56] [zEkE|Macbook] lol
[21:56] [peer] A month
[21:56] [peer] My bad
[21:56] [zEkE|Macbook] thats not accounting for other outgoings, like paying for the wraps themselves
[21:56] [zEkE|Macbook] thats an unknown cost
[21:56] [peer] 70,000 would pay like 3 1/2 people, maybe 2 1/2 depending on how much you pay
[21:57] [peer] All of it is unknown
[21:57] [peer] Just estimates...
[21:57] [zEkE|Macbook] yep
[21:57] [peer] But to wrap a car prolly takes what, 2 hours on a half wrap...
[21:57] [peer] 12 a hour employee, plus 4 more a hour for insurance,
[21:57] [Mack] please inderstand it is a sweet deal
[21:58] [Mack] but if you do not live in a large metro area
[21:58] [Mack] chances that you will get selected to use your car or get a free car is very small
[21:58] [peer] true
[21:58] [Mack] you also must drive a certain number of hours per day
[21:58] [Mack] and in certain areas to be considered
[21:58] [Mack] believe me
[21:58] [peer] But we are discussing making our own wrapping company now
[21:58] [peer] LoL
[21:58] [Mack] i checked into this long ago
[21:58] [peer] We past the getting our cars wrapped
[21:58] [peer] LoL
[21:59] [Mack] oh ok
[21:59] [peer] But it would be a good side bid,
[21:59] [peer] Even at 100 a month in a rural area
[21:59] [Tarcas] Peer, what's the startup cost?
[22:00] [peer] A Ben is a Ben no matter how you spend it
[22:00] [peer] 150 grand maybe
[22:00] [Tarcas] how long to pay that back?
[22:00] [peer] 100 cars leased,
[22:00] [peer] and put out right away
[22:00] [peer] Run for a year,
[22:00] [peer] 1 year
[22:01] [peer] Maybe 2 max
[22:01] [peer] Right now,
[22:01] [Tarcas] Land one big client, Take out a couple of TV commercials in your target market, and you're golden. Who WOULDN'T want to drive a free *new* car?

[22:03] [peer] Id have to keep it on the downlow from the wife,
[22:03] [peer] I cant get a sucker.
[22:03] [peer] Let alone 150
[22:03] [peer] They wont even give me a Credit Card
[22:03] [Tarcas] you don't get the money for you, you get your business to get it (but you'll probably have to cosign it)
[22:03] [peer] Said Imight as well grew up in the 20s
[22:04] [Tarcas] If the business plan works, you can find investors. 10 people, 15 grand a piece? Sounds easy to me.
[22:04] [peer] Hmmm
[22:05] [Tarcas] By the way, if it works... I'm claiming your St. Louis franchise now. I can raise my 150k.
[22:05] [peer] You know... the Company COO said in that meeting that if there was anything he could do to help us, feel free to talk to him..

[22:06] [peer] I know 2 to be exact.
[22:06] [peer] 3

[22:11] [RichardCranium] not in every case, Tarcas
[22:11] [zEkE|Macbook] depending on whether it's IDE/SATA/SCSI
[22:11] [zEkE|Macbook] on a VPS it'd be something else
[22:11] [zEkE|Macbook] depending on the platform
[22:12] [Tarcas] okay, all the HDDs I have seen are hd or fd.
[22:12] [Tarcas] er... sd, not fd

[22:13] [Tarcas] right.
[22:13] [Tarcas] Why not use KVM?
[22:13] [zEkE|Macbook] yeah, its the way OpenVZ does it

[22:58] [peer] Want and Need are 2 different things
[22:58] [RichardCranium] http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/498a1d4c01b44dfe273fc0a87f3b06c9/Product/View/XC4045 <-- now that's a first
[22:58] [RichardCranium] a shop *giving* away it's products
[22:58] [zEkE|Macbook] its FC5
[22:58] [RichardCranium] shame DSE doesn't stock *BSD
[22:58] [zEkE|Macbook] you think they could sell that??
[22:58] [zEkE|Macbook] :P
[22:59] [RichardCranium] they sell FC and Ubuntu
[22:59] [RichardCranium] and, legally, you are allowed to sell FBSD if it's on a physical medium (like a CD)
[22:59] [zEkE|Macbook] did FC update recently?
[22:59] [RichardCranium] but only enough to recoup the cost of the CD media itself
[22:59] [RichardCranium] ie: can't derive a profit
[22:59] [RichardCranium] iirc, they're upto version 8 already
[23:00] [RichardCranium] the only FCs i have is FC3 lol
[23:00] [zEkE|Macbook] that explains why DSE would be giving away FC5
[23:00] *** RichardCranium isn't interested in FC tho, nor is he interested in Ubuntu for that matter
[23:00] [RichardCranium] i wonder if there's any other comp shops in this hole that stock *nix stuffs
[23:01] [peer] I seen Wal-Mart selling Debian one time...
[23:01] [peer] Also a Copy of Defender Pro, packaged as 2
[23:03] raddmasta (~raddmasta@uccn-F6DACEE6.dsl.akrnoh.sbcglobal.net) joined #uccn.
[23:03] [RichardCranium] oh what in the heck
[23:03] [zEkE|Macbook] o.O
[23:04] [RichardCranium] yellow pages lists Diver Supplies under Computer Supplies in Masterton
[23:06] [RichardCranium] now trying to remember the name of that place on the corner of queen and crayne that does comp gear
[23:06] [RichardCranium] but they're rip-off central
[23:06] [RichardCranium] 2 years ago, they wanted $150 for a 40GB IDE
[23:06] [RichardCranium] it's like... dude, I can pick up a 320GB SATA for that price
[23:07] [RichardCranium] http://www.techs.co.nz/products/software.htm <-- haha, look at the photo for Win2K8
[23:07] [RichardCranium] and Office XP lolz!
[23:08] [zEkE|Macbook] hahaha
[23:08] [zEkE|Macbook] fail
[23:11] [RichardCranium] found 'em
[23:11] [RichardCranium] they've renamed - UGH!
[23:12] [RichardCranium] and they're n00b central
[23:12] [RichardCranium] does nobody in this town stock *BSD?!?!
[23:12] [digiEd] zEkE|Macbook: you used to use cafenet, yes?
[23:13] [zEkE|Macbook] http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=3325567
[23:13] [raddmasta] the internet does
[23:13] [zEkE|Macbook] yeah, once upon a time
[23:14] [zEkE|Macbook] lol
[23:14] [RichardCranium] raddmasta - don't have the drivespace (letalone a burner) to store ISOs
[23:14] [zEkE|Macbook] You currently have no pre-paid time available:
[23:14] [zEkE|Macbook] You have 0.22 MBytes data quota available:
[23:15] [RichardCranium] so if a shop carried said ISOs alerady burnt onto CDs, that would be a bonus :|
[23:16] *** Tarcas can burn one and mail it if you make it worth my while.
[23:16] [raddmasta] yeah
[23:16] [RichardCranium] it's usually a 3-cd set, Tarcas
[23:16] [RichardCranium] and you're not local are you?
[23:16] *** zEkE|Macbook can burn a set and mail it :P
[23:16] [Tarcas] USPS makes anyone local. :-P
[23:17] [Tarcas] What're you wanting to burn?
[23:17] [RichardCranium] if only you lived in wainui, zeke
[23:17] [RichardCranium] then it would be a non-issue for me :P
[23:17] [zEkE|Macbook] lol
[23:18] [RichardCranium] if i can get there on foot in the timeframe between sunrise and sunset - it's walking distance
[23:18] [Tarcas] what's that, 20-30 miles?
[23:18] [RichardCranium] talking of walking distance... i got picked up last night on my way home by a cop
[23:18] [RichardCranium] he asked where i'd come from, where i was going - and he was dumbfounded about the distance
[23:18] [RichardCranium] Tarcas - depends on your pace ;)
[23:19] [Tarcas] I meant yours.
[23:19] [raddmasta] I can walk to my kitchen.
[23:19] [zEkE|Macbook] lol
[23:19] [RichardCranium] what dumbfounded the cop more was when i mentioned that i've walked from JVille to Taita previously
[23:19] [zEkE|Macbook] i guess a DVD is useless to you? lol
[23:19] [Tarcas] I could walk to the bank or grocery store, but I haven't yet.
[23:19] [RichardCranium] yes it is, zEkE|Macbook
[23:19] [zEkE|Macbook] i can download ISO's for CD's though
[23:19] [RichardCranium] only have a bog standard CD-Rom
[23:19] [RichardCranium] me burner (which can also handle DVDs) is EOL
[23:20] [Tarcas] me burner worked last time I tried it.
[23:20] [zEkE|Macbook] all my burners work
[23:20] [zEkE|Macbook] which version do you want?
[23:20] [zEkE|Macbook] 7.1?
[23:21] Nick change: RichardCranium -> digilante
[23:21] [zEkE|Macbook] 6.4?
[23:21] [raddmasta] :P
[23:21] [digilante] power trip != cool
[23:22] [digilante] power trip == lame
[23:22] [digilante] latest stable
[23:23] [zEkE|Macbook] <-- linux kid
[23:23] [digilante] <-- wants BSD because it's geared towards a server setup
[23:23] [Tarcas] <-- Linux goat
[23:23] [digilante] <-- won't argue with that
[23:23] [Tarcas] Ever heard of Debian?
[23:23] [digilante] yes I have, Tarcas
[23:24] [Tarcas] Slim it down or bloat it up, it can be a nimble server or a robust desktop. Only difference is the packages.
[23:25] [digilante] i find linux to be geared for desktop use, and BSD to be geared for an actual server
[23:25] [zEkE|Macbook] digilante, freebsd.org is saying both 6.4 and 7.1 are 'current releases'
[23:25] [digilante] like, FC would balk at my proliant, yet BSD wouldn't have an issue with it
[23:25] [Tarcas] That's what my servers have been for years. Always old hardware (until this latest one) and always underutilized. (on my P200 top used 1-3% of the CPU and was the heaviest user)
[23:25] [digilante] go for 7.1 then
[23:25] [zEkE|Macbook] kk
[23:25] [digilante] but don't waste yer discs and cash
[23:25] [digilante] because by the time it arrives it'll be obsolete and I'd already have it
[23:25] [zEkE|Macbook] i386?
[23:25] [zEkE|Macbook] :P
[23:26] [digilante] yeh
[23:26] [digilante] Dual PIII-866 w/ 1GB of Registered ECC SD-RAM
[23:26] [digilante] hardware controlled RAID :)
[23:26] [zEkE|Macbook] :D
[23:26] [zEkE|Macbook] whered you get that?
[23:26] [zEkE|Macbook] :P
[23:26] [Tarcas] beefy.
[23:26] [zEkE|Macbook] and wheres mine
[23:27] [Tarcas] sounds like a surplussed serious server from about 5 years ago.
[23:27] [zEkE|Macbook] sounds like one he'd have picked up from Tim
[23:28] [Tarcas] sounds like something I might pick up from work, except for the ECC RAM... and I don't know if the RAID is hardware or software.
[23:28] [Tarcas] just replaced one with a hard disk controller that failed. RAID doesn't protect against that.
[23:29] [digilante] sucker costs $50/mo to run
[23:29] [Tarcas] and earlier this week I had IBM ship a HDD to replace one that had failed.
[23:30] [Tarcas] digilante: are you serious? My entire power bill isn't that high in the winter. A friend of mine figured out it costs him $5 per system on average per month.
[23:30] [digilante] Compaq ProLiant ML370 w/ 2x 9.1GB SCSIs (Ultra 320), and 3x 18.2GB SCSIs (also Ultra 320)
[23:30] [digilante] 12/24GB DAT as well (SCSI)
[23:30] [Tarcas] That's why it sounds like something we'd use at work... We use Prolient DL360s.
[23:31] [digilante] Tarcas - the boxen has 3 PSU slots on the back-end, and to run the box plus 5 drives = at least 2 supplies running at any one time
[23:31] [digilante] each supply can produce 225W of power
[23:31] [digilante] i can pickup a DL380 G2 from work if i wanted it
[23:31] [digilante] or a Dell PowerEdge 2650
[23:31] [Tarcas] okay, so maybe $10-15, but not $50.
[23:31] [digilante] to run 24/7 (as you would with a server), it costs $50 in juice each month
[23:31] [Tarcas] Grab 'em.
[23:32] [Tarcas] Phil's $5 estimate was 24/7
[23:32] [Tarcas] of course I think that was NOT including cooling.
[23:33] [digilante] to run the fridge and 3x desktops constantly, and my girlfriend's mac on occaision (plus jug/hot water/etc) cost me $158.37 last month
[23:33] [Tarcas] lol, my whole power bill in Jan was less than $40.
[23:33] [digilante] i've got the bill down to $40
[23:33] [digilante] with another meter reading due next friday
[23:34] [Tarcas] I do turn my monitors off at night and while I'm at work, but the 3 systems are on contantly.
[23:34] [Tarcas] (one is a laptop, so that should be low usage)
[23:34] [zEkE|Macbook] keep in mind, the difference in rates etc between the two countries
[23:35] [Tarcas] just realized my wireless router is plugged in... can't have that now.
[23:35] [Tarcas] ah. That could well be.
[23:35] [zEkE|Macbook] i'm not sure what my parents were paying for a 'typical house'
[23:37] [Tarcas] mine fluctuates like crazy. Feb was $6.x, Jan $37.x and Dec $0.53; I don't get it.
[23:37] [zEkE|Macbook] mmm
[23:37] [Tarcas] And yes, the bill showed up in Feb already.
[23:40] [zEkE|Macbook] http://www.eurobsdmall.com/catalog/popup_image.php/pID/51 <-- not as cute as i'd hoped a FBSD daemon plush would be
[23:40] [Tarcas] kinda dull in color.
[23:40] [zEkE|Macbook] yeah
[23:41] [Tarcas] and should have a smirk, not that silly-@ss grin
[23:41] [zEkE|Macbook] http://www.freebsd.org/gifs/releases.jpg <-- compared to that....it's just bleh
[23:41] [raddmasta] lol
[23:42] [Tarcas] much cuter
[23:42] [raddmasta] there are many variations.
[23:42] [Tarcas] wow... Tiger has a $140 barebone kit. Mobo, RAM, CPU and case.
[23:43] [Tarcas] add a $60 HDD and you have a $200 PC. Install Linux with a borrowed drive or netboot and you're golden.
[23:43] [raddmasta] some people have too much time on their hands: http://freebsd-image-gallery.netcode.pl/_bsd-daemon/daemon_2.jpg
[23:43] [raddmasta] must be the same people who made that giant tape ball.
[23:43] [Tarcas] Or pay $150 for XP Pro. :-P
[23:43] [zEkE|Macbook] haha awesome
[23:44] [raddmasta] whats your guys' favorite system for desktop use?
[23:44] [Tarcas] cute, but a big sign that says "too much time on my hands"
[23:44] [zEkE|Macbook] i have OS X, XP and Ubuntu 8.04, I think
[23:44] [Tarcas] I use Debian. Next time I'm trying Ubuntu.
[23:44] [zEkE|Macbook] and i use them in that order
[23:44] [raddmasta] ya Tarcas, I'm on Ubuntu right now and I've had Debian. But I'd like to try Mac out.
[23:45] [Tarcas] then why ask?
[23:45] [Tarcas] how do you like Ubuntu compared to Deb?
[23:46] [zEkE|Macbook] i didn't like Debian's default X config, Ubuntu did a lot better in that department, but Ubuntu doesn't have the same options as far as hardware setups as debian, which is mostly why i prefer debian on my servers
[23:47] [Tarcas] <censored>? 32 GB flash drive for $39? Is that a typo?! That'd make a SWEET boot drive!
[23:47] [raddmasta] yeah I like Ubuntu better for desktop use.
[23:47] [Tarcas] That's what I was thinking... stick with Debian for my slim servers, and use Ubuntu to get the desktops more robust easily.
[23:48] [Tarcas] Debian's X config sucks. I agree, zEkE|Macbook
[23:50] [Tarcas] If I used mirrored RAID with two drives with very different physical properties, (i.e. a flash drive and a platter drive) would it read from the fast drive, or pick some from one and some from the other?
[23:50] [Tarcas] On the other hand... for the price just keep the flash backed up on my server and buy another if it fails.
[23:51] [Tarcas] How big is a decent Ubuntu install?
[23:52] [raddmasta] man @ universalists coming to CCF :P
[23:56] [raddmasta] https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/installation-guide/i386/minimum-hardware-reqts.html
[23:57] [Tarcas] With Desktop 64 megabytes 512 megabytes 5 gigabytes
[23:57] [Tarcas] Think a 32 GB flash drive and 4 GB RAM will do? :-D
[23:57] [raddmasta] well it's saying a standard desktop installation requires 2gb.
[23:57] [raddmasta] hehe.
[23:57] [Tarcas] so 32 will be great.
[23:58] [raddmasta] I've got 50 set aside for ubuntu, and 180 set for XP.
[23:58] [Tarcas] just mount my server's SMB share and I'm golden. 1.5 TB of RAID 5 storage accessable over a gigabit LAN.
[23:58] [Tarcas] How much of that 50 are you using?
